Here are a few tips to help maintain the life of your brick pavers.
Clear Debris Regularly
It’s impossible to keep dirt and debris from building up on your pavers. Nevertheless, you can use a broom and hose to wash dirt and debris away weekly to stop the pavers from staining. If staining occurs, you can use a mild detergent mixed with water to remove them. The sooner you act on a stain, the easier it will be to get it out, so it’s a good idea to get into the habit of washing your pavers as soon as you notice any discolorations or blemishes on them. A wire brush is effective for difficult stains.
Remove Weeds from Paver Joints
If you want to avoid looking at unsightly weeds that grow in pavers, use a pre-emergent powder that you can broom sweep into joints, then wet it down slightly. Taking the time to do this twice a year will help prevent weeds from growing.
If you have weeds, you can use an organic weed killer by mixing 1 gallon of water, 2 cups of vinegar, and a teaspoon of dish soap. Spray the mix onto the joints with a hand sprayer to eliminate the weeds.
If you have moss in the joints, spread a powder lime on the moss, which will take care of the issue for you.
Use a Sealant
There are specific sealants that are designed for pavers. Every few years, you should use one to seal your pavers. The sealant will stop stains from working their way deep down into your pavers and prevent environmental factors from harming them. It’s well worth your time and money to seal them properly!
