Pool Maintenance Tips

swimming poolThere are few things better than having a pool right in your backyard. Not only does it give you and your family a fun way to relax and have fun throughout the summer, but it increases the overall value of your home. However, homeowners should be aware of the maintenance required to keep a pool in top shape. While it doesn’t take a lot of work, failing to take care of your pool can lead to a wasted investment. We’re here to go over a few surprising pool maintenance tips that can make your job easier.
While you may be tempted to keep the water in your pool very warm, this can end up costing you a lot of money when it comes to your electricity bills. This doesn’t mean that you have to swim in freezing water however. Simply purchase a solar cover to place over the water, which will heat the pool at no cost.
There are a variety of factors that can cause your pool to lose water, but regardless of the causes you should be keeping track of how much is lost each day. If your pool is losing much more than a quarter of an inch there may be a problem. In order to track the amount of lost water you can place a bucket on the stairs in your pool. Simply mark the water level on the side of the weighted bucket and you will instantly see how much is being lost.
Finally, consider putting a tennis ball in your pool every few days. A tennis ball will soak up sunscreen and other chemicals that may be causing the pool to become dirty. You can even switch out the ball every other day and leave once in the water at all times.
Take advantage of these maintenance tips and you will be well on your way to having a cleaner and more efficient pool.
